Why is it important to be able to live for yourself

Why is it important to be able to live for yourself

Why is it important to be able to live for yourself. At the end of the article, I will give a small test that will allow you to understand if you know how to live for yourself, but I want to start a little with something else.

Why is it important to be able to live for yourself

So, just to be clear, I don't see anything wrong with healthy selfishness. On the contrary: I see only the good.

What is the difference between a healthy egoism and an unhealthy one?

Healthy egoism is when you know how to take care of yourself and your needs, know how to organize your life the way you like it, know how to ask for help and support when you need it, and at the same time are quite attentive to others and their boundaries.

Unhealthy selfishness is when you try to satisfy your needs at the expense of other people through manipulation, outright blackmail, breaking boundaries, and so on.

So, there is nothing wrong with healthy egoism.

You are the most important person in your life, and your needs should come first for you.

It often happens that people forget about it and start living their lives for the sake of others. For parents, children, husbands/wives, even friends. Such people are convenient, comfortable, it is very pleasant to be with them: why, because they so easily adapt to other people's needs and so easily forget about their own!

Unfortunately, this is a road to nowhere. If you don't live your life, no one will do it for you. And in trying to please everyone around, to adapt to everyone around, it is very easy to get lost and lose yourself completely.

Test yourself by answering "yes" or "no" to the statements that I will write below. Can you live for yourself?

  • I know my needs well and know how to organize my life so that they are satisfied
  • I understand my limitations and know how to deal with them correctly
  • I have the right to have my own opinion on any matter
  • I can ask for help and support, but I'm not offended if the other person right now is not able to give it to me
  • I consider the interests of other people, but I usually put my own interests first.
  • I have the right to be different from other people and these differences do not cause me discomfort.
  • I know what I want and I know how to get it. And if I don't know, I'll find out in the near future
  • I have the right to want, to achieve, to achieve, to let go, to leave aside - and in general to do anything with my life and the events that take place in it

If you answered “yes” to most of the statements, congratulations, you know how to live for yourself. If there are more “no” answers, this is an occasion to think about whose life you are actually living.
